Week 3 - Saturday - Boa

[Whatever ends up going down after the trial, Mitsuru isn't around to see it. Instead, he simply heads back, glancing between lodge and cabin and eventually settling on cabin.

He's not feeling particularly social at the moment. But there's a few people in the camp who could probably get him talking...]

There's always an element of that no matter what, I find.

[Sacrifices and all. From the start, he hadn't really meant to get Wataru killed - it was the opposite, actually. But...]

Well. Either we survive, or we don't. Anything we can do to work towards success is better than giving up.

Yeah.

[ There's a pause here. Mitsuru believes in luck, which puts a certain conversation from the week in perspective.]

... You know... [ deep breath] When the lake cat almost got me it wasn't bad luck. I was stupid.

[That gets a sharp glance.]

...What happened?

[finalguard]

[ Yeah, that instantly makes Boa regret this kind of confession. ]

It's... really dumb. [ pause. ] Not 'moose in the park' levels of dumb, at least.

[ More pause. ]

But getting meat to distract a carnivore is only good when you're not the person actively holding the meat. [ He just... thinks his face further into his knees now. ] If I'd died, I would have deserved that. I'm sorry for not telling you earlier.

[ You wasted your relief a little, huh? ]

[Yeah, he hadn't heard that part.]

You didn't just throw it?

[There's a light frown - he can sort of trace the logic, but...]

No, I was... kind of frozen. In the time we took to even get the meat, the situation outside had already changed so much that I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out what was going on and where it would be needed.

[ When he went inside the cat had still carried Eddie, when he came back it was playing with Gonta, it was kind of confusing. ]

...it looks like you owe your life to luck, too.

[He sighs a bit, but there you have it.]

As much as I appreciate the distraction, I won't be hurt if you keep your own safety in mind, too.

[finalguard]

[ 'Too'? It sticks out to Boa loosely, but the thought is pushed aside by how undeserving he feels and yet how... harmless this confession went? He actually raises his head again. ]

...yes. I want to get out of here together with you, after all.

[Oh? There's another one of those tired smiles.]

I didn't realize I figured into the equation.

[They're both focused on their own survival, after all...]

[And, once again, his gaze drifts elsewhere.]

...Wherever this leads us, I think I'd prefer that as well.

[Boa is a trusted ally, and one of the very few. He knows that even if something were to happen, he'd need to press on solo, but...

He wouldn't enjoy having to do so, that's for certain.]

I'll do everything I can to achieve this. I promise that.

[ Boa smiles a little as well, hearing this. He had thought before that surviving alone was his top priority, but after concern about Eddie almost caused his death...

All talk of luck be damned, there is simply nothing more motivating than thinking of standing victorious together at the end, as if it's an inevitability that they just need to work hard towards. ]
